Description

'Northblue' is a hybrid variety resulting from a cross between corymb-type blueberry plants and dwarf blueberry plants. It was developed by the University of Minnesota’s breeding program to combine the hardiness of the dwarf blueberry with larger berries and a taller growth habit similar to that of corymb-type blueberry plants. Its dwarf blueberry characteristics therefore give it excellent hardiness. It must be planted alongside a second cultivar for successful pollination. Blueberries particularly thrive in acidic soils—with a pH between 4.5 and 5—that are rich in organic matter.
