Description
An old Canadian cultivar selected near North Battleford, Saskatchewan, from a seedling believed to have Russian ancestry. Introduced in 1934, Battleford is valued for its exceptional cold hardiness and ability to produce in regions with severe winters. The fruit is particularly useful for cooking and acceptable for fresh eating.

Fruits
Medium to large fruit, approximately 6–7.5 cm in diameter. Greenish-yellow to pale-yellow skin with red stripes and mottling. Yellowish-white, coarse-textured and crisp flesh with a slightly tart, sub-acid flavour. Good for cooking, pies, sauces and juice; acceptable for fresh eating. Storage is relatively short, approximately 4 weeks under suitable conditions.
